A Funny Thing Happened After The Fey Wild
After spending over a year of IRL time in the fey wild The Dragon Hand Adventuring Company was finally dumped back into their own material plane by the Queen of the Summer Court at the end of the session before this. Eta was absent during that session and as such she had yet to make her save to determine if she remembered her jaunt through the fey wild. Here is a summary of what happened this past Saturday….
We resumed our adventure in the settlement of Hawk’s Nest, where the party had just arrived after their return to the material plane. Having had dinner and headed to their room they each decided to study their gifts from the Summer Queen to see what they were- in doing so Mott ended up attuning to magical pair of scissors, while everyone else found that they had been gifted a common magical item that was deemed fitting for each of them. Then they all laid down to take a long rest.
Rising from her long rest, Moira’s grief over the loss of her wife was too much for her. She left the inn and the settlement to go see if she could take her feelings out on any passing orcs.
Eta upon waking (and failing her save for memories of the fey wild) in what to her was a strange place thought really hard and had no idea where she was or how she got here. Baltar upon waking headed over to Eta’s door to knock and ask her if she wanted to go to the pawnshop with him. However due to not remembering who Baltar was (as they met in the fey wild) she was frightened by the loud banging and brash voice at her door and she chose to jump out the window of her room on the second story of the inn rather than open the door. She failed her DEX save on that epically and star fished on the cobblestone pavement outside, causing a commotion on the street. Which lead to the first interaction with the settlement knights (see guard) of the day, as Ycks and Mott rushed down to check on her and get her out of the street. They tried to ensure that the teenager who just took a flying leap out of the inn was ok and assure the guards that there was no problem while Baltar watched very confused as to why Eta was saying she didn’t know him.
While Ycks and Mott took her into the inn to calm down, Baltar headed off to a pawn shop to sell off some spare weapons and armor he’d picked up in an orc fight on the way to the settlement. He found the owner of the pawnshop to seem to be trustworthy and sold all his items without haggling. Feeling sorry for Eta’s reaction earlier he even purchased her a little toy mechanical bird that whistled. Meanwhile, back at the inn Mott figured out they needed to get a remove curse cast on Eta (because he’d had this happen to him before) so that she would remember things and maybe calm down. Baltar returned with the toy he bought and gave it to Eta as an apology. She accepted the toy, still not quite believing that she knew this big man.
Now that things were settled, Mott lead the party out to one of the local temples to get Eta help. On their way to the temple Fianna spotted the party in the street and decided to see what these people who had caused so much entertainment earlier in the day were up to, thus she followed them to the temple. At the temple a child acolyte greeted them and Baltar, Ycks, and Eta proceeded to terrify and torment him while they were waiting for the temple cleric to come. After a brief and failed attempt to flirt and haggle by Mott, he paid the cleric the full fee and the cleric escorted Eta away to perform the spell. While Eta was away Baltar and Ycks continued to mess with the young acolyte who’d been left to keep an eye on the party, ending with Ycks providing him with a bit of magical candy that Eta had given her to cause more trouble for the boy. The curse removed, Eta finally remembered everything, including the fact that she's a cleric now and not a wizard. During this entire interlude, Fianna had sat in the sanctuary of the temple pretending to pray, quietly observing all of this.
After the ruckus at the temple the party stepped outside and ventured to the pawnshop now to check it out. Mott tried to get the very sarcastic dwarven proprietor of the shop to buy some dragon scales, however, she was selling almost exclusively metal and she turned down that deal despite Mott trying to give her a hard sell. Fianna having watched from outside as the shop as the pawn broker (whom she knew because she was from here) shook off the attempted sale. She approached them after they exited and told them that they would probably have better luck selling those either at the general store or by going back to Silverymoon.
At the mention of Silverymoon, Eta realized that they were finally back on their material plane and that she was only a few hundred miles from home. She then began to hyper focus on going home and Fianna offered to guide them wherever they wanted to go from here in this territory as she was looking to get away from her home. After a prolonged discussion in the street, the party headed back to the inn inviting Fianna to join them.
They sat down to order some food and figure things out and Mott decided to try his bag of tricks, because it didn't work in some areas of the fey wild, so he flicked one of the puff balls behind him in the dining room conjuring a brown bear. Seeing this Eta pulled one of hers as well, conjuring a jackal. This occurred just as the bar maid was bringing their food out of the kitchen and she freaked out. She demanded that the animals be out of the inn immediately- they were not allowed. Mott decided to pay 1s to rent a stall for the bear in the stables, but then just gave verbal directions and commands to the bear to go to the stable on its own, Eta sent the jackal behind. So the bear lumbered out of the dining room, through the hotel lobby, and out the front door of the inn into the street. (You know, the street of the walled in settlement that is very tightly built.) This caused chaos in the street and the bear was murdered/vanished. Settlement knights immediately came into the inn to demand who brought a bear into their city. Eta accused the Mott, Mott persuaded the guards it wasn't him, the barmaid accused the Eta, because she saw her throw something as she stepped out the kitchen and then there was a bear. The guards arrested Eta and hauled her to jail for the night.
Baltar tried to go back to the temple that night to see if they could get the kid acolyte to be a character witness for Eta, but found the temple closed to the public for the night. The rest of the party had a nice night at the inn while Eta had a passable night at the jail while a drunk in the next cell down was audibly sick off and on through the night.
The next morning Ycks (normally the Eta’s partner in crime), who had just been sitting back enjoying the chaos, headed out to court with Fianna and Mott, after Mott tried to bribe Baltar with food to keep him from coming to court. Thinking he was successful the 3 of them set out. Baltar waited for them to head out and then headed out himself again stopping at the temple, meeting a different acolyte. That acolyte called for adults as soon as Baltar said who he was. The clerics at the temple came over immediately and told him he had to leave and that the acolyte from the day before was receiving therapy for what had happened when the party was there.
So he headed down to the courthouse where the rest of the party had already gone inside and he got in just before the door shut. He immediately tried to get other people in the audience to shout that Eta was innocent when she came in by offering them gold, which is when the party found out that part of the orders of the court is that the court is locked when in session and the audience is not allowed to speak, if they speak they are immediately arrested for contempt of court, removed from the audience and presented for judgement along with everyone else on trial.
After a couple other criminals were brought in, the cleric was brought in. Baltar immediately began shouting that she was innocent and he was instantly arrested and hauled out. She failed her save on Zone of Truth and when asked if she was responsible for the bear she truthfully answered no and the charges were immediately dropped and she was escorted out of the court, but as she was leaving she started to tell the lord sitting in judgement that she knew who was responsible. Mott immediately began telling her to be quiet (which is normal behavior for him) getting himself arrested as well. Baltar and Mott both ended up being charged a fine of 5 silver for being in contempt of court, they paid their fines and were escorted out of the court in to the yard for prisoners that have been released. They found Eta there and the three stood together waiting for the other 2 to come out once court is over and that's where we left things.
Sheesh, that was a lot for a two hour session, and I just need to mention that the one usually responsible for party chaos, Ycks, just basically sat back and watched the show. Who knows what will happen next? We will have to wait and see what the next adventure shall be.
