A Good Day In Court
Informational Note: We had a full table once again for this session.
In the spare bedroom of Lolita Rosebloom’s home on Long Tree Court we rejoin our party…
Giving the room one last quick inspection, the party bid farewell to Lolita and made their way back out into the street, discussing the fact that they no longer had a place to stay- should they extend their stay at The Bridge Inn or maybe change to a new place. After a few minutes debate the party decided to seek rooms at The Lark, as that is where Jeri was staying and maybe they could find her there too.
Mott, handing the party some money to reserve him a room tells them that he is going to try to get a lawyer to help with Lunaris’ case tomorrow. After obtaining Lunaris’ summons from him Mott headed off to do just that.
Mott made his way to Larken Associates and asked to see Antin - the agent that Eta’s dad had previously hired. After a brief wait, Mott is shown in to the lawyer’s office. Upon Mott’s explaining about Lunaris receiving this summons and that he was hoping to have a defense for his new friend, Antin agrees to represent Lunaris with the understanding that based on the charges there was very little he could do aside from trying to plead for a lesser charge and that may not work. Mott agrees that as long as Antin does legitimately try to help, that it will be acceptable. So a deal is struck for the defense of Lunaris and then Mott says that he has two other pieces of business. He then proceeds to make arrangements for Antin to keep a lookout for Sunny and/or The Stormbreaker for the next three months and also for Antin to be on retainer for five hours worth of services for The Dragon Hand Adventuring Company should they need it. Business done, Mott headed out to return to his friends at The Lark and have a discussion with them.
After Mott headed off for his business, the party began to make their way to The Lark, Lunaris mentioned that he wanted to go check in at The Vault and he would meet back up with the party later to return the clock to Anticka. Since he had to pass The Lark on the way, he walked with them that far, but left them at the door there and continued on. Upon entering through the staff door of The Vault, he found Professor Stonethrows manning the sign out desk. He greeted Lunaris with a mean spirited smile and informed him that he had received his first strike due to being charged in a first degree trespassing case. The Professor reminded Lunaris of The Vault’s 3 strikes policy and he could easily be told to leave, rather than admitted into the Wizardry College that he hoped to attend. Lunaris hearing all this went about gathering what he needed for the evening and heading back to The Lark to meet up with everyone.
Over at the Lark, the rest of the party was speaking with the gnomish bartender - red head named Snowbelle- about getting rooms there. Just after securing them, Jeri came down the stairs having spent her day resting and sending a letter home to her mother. Silbiiah mentions that she too had posted a letter home while making their way to The Lark. Rooms secured the group decided to grab some drinks while they waited for Mott and Lunaris to arrive. Mott arrived first, followed shortly by Lunaris.
Mott than proceeded to grab a table and gathered the party to share information with them. He informs them of the arrangements he has made with Antin first. He then proceeds to tell them about the voice he’s been hearing from time to time in his head that he has learned is coming from the iron scissors that were gifted to him by the fairy queen. He explains that if he has seemed odd or distant lately its because of this. The party is briefly concerned about this, but Mott says that for now there doesn’t seem to be anything bad about this voice so he’s not worried about it. Mott then suggests that maybe after Lunaris’ trial the next day they should get out of town for awhile and he knows Eta wants to go to Nesmé.
Eta then explains that she wants to go to Nesmé because it is only a few days walk from there to her father’s estate and she wants to confront him about what is going on. She knows they’ll need to travel by river from Silverymoon to Nesmé. The rest of the party chimes in saying that as far as some of them knew, Nesmé had been abandoned about seventeen years ago. Lunaris chimes in and says that there is a current rumor that someone is trying to rebuild there, so it may not be abandoned.
Leaving that discussion for the moment, Silbiiah brings up to the party that she has made a down payment on a commission for six sets of platinum rings that she can use to help cast a protection spell on members of the party. The problem is she doesn’t have enough gold left to pay the remainder at pick up tomorrow. She asks if any of the party would be willing to help out with the cost. Eta gives Silbiiah what she needs to make up the difference.
Upon finishing this discussion, the time had come for them to head to Sorlar’s to meet Anticka. It is decided that Mott, Lunaris, Ycks, and Fianna will head there while Jeri, Silbiiah, and Eta stay behind. Eta was not pleased with this decision. As the group headed out, Eta stealthily slipped away from the table and out the door behind them.
Successfully eluding detection, Eta, followed as the clock party made there way to Sorlar’s. The group left Fianna outside to keep watch and unbeknownst to the rest of the group, Eta also kept watch about 5 feet away from Fianna hidden behind a broadsheet. Inside Sorlar’s the rest of the group was shown into a private room to meet with Anticka. She was so pleased with the retrieval of the clock that she gave Mott a satchel with coins in it, which he tucked in the bag of holding. Mission complete, the party headed out to return to The Lark, checking to see if they were followed and as far as they knew, they weren’t. Meanwhile, Eta tailed them the whole way back, sticking to the shadows and making sure nothing untoward happened to them. Slipping carefully inside the door of The Lark just behind them.
While the rest were gone, a slightly tipsy Jeri turned to ask Eta a question….Where was Eta? Eta was no where to be seen. Jeri asked Silbiiah where Eta was, Silbiiah suggested perhaps Eta had gone to her room to lie down, so the two went up and knocked on Eta’s door. There was no answer. They then proceeded to hunt for Eta for the next forty or so minutes until the rest of the party returned.
Jeri immediately asked them if they had seen Eta when the four who’d gone off returned. They told her that Eta was here, Silbiiah said she was not. Mott starting to get very irritated as he had expressly told Eta to stay here so that she wouldn’t get into trouble began to curse. When Eta suddenly popped up from under a table where two very startled humans were drinking saying: “What? I’m right here?” Everyone was relieved and Mott gave her a look. “I was trying to steal shoes.” She stated. So glad to see her safe, Mott clapped her on the shoulder saying how pleased he was that she had remained here.
The party enjoyed a few drinks together, with Mott extending an invitation to Lunaris to join the party on their travels, and then all headed for their respective beds.
The next morning Lunaris headed straight for The Star Court, not realizing that his new friends would also be coming. He tries to warn them off as he sees them approaching the court, thinking that it might be dangerous for them all to be seen together- but the party was having none of it and so in they all went. The party went in to the court to watch, while Antin and Lunaris were lead into a small room so they could prep for the hearing. After a brief conversation, they were called before the judge.
After the reading of the charges, Antin made his case for a reduction in the charges against Lunaris as he was a first time offender who truly did not mean any harm. Judge Darvis proved to be swayed by this and reduced the charge from Trespassing in the First Degree to Secondary Trespassing, reducing the fine to 300g or five days in jail. After a brief exchange with Lunaris, Antin states that his client will pay the fine. The two are lead from the court room to the clerk to pay the fine, while the party exits the court room to wait for Lunaris while the next case is called.
Meeting back up the party headed back to the jeweler’s to pick up the rings that Silbiiah had commissioned. Silbiiah paid the remainder of the fee and collected the rings. Each set with a distinct, but simple engraving, Silbiiah walked out to the shop distributing a ring from each set to the party member she’d commissioned them for.
And there we leave the party in the street, with shiny new rings, and a decision to make about what’s next…
