When It Rains....
Informational note before we dive in: Moira’s player was once again away, so she is absent from this week’s tale.
And now to resume the Tale of the Dragon Hand Adventuring Company:
We rejoin our adventurers on the Silverymoon Pass between Hawk’s Nest and Silverymoon, having just finished their fight with the troll and the hobgoblin and the sun beginning to set. The party decided to push on for about a half hour more before they made camp. Mott was feeling pretty relieved the whole time about recovering his stolen scissors. Baltar finally snapped out of his drunken reverie as the party resumed their trek.
Fianna located a nice safe space for them to camp a bit off the road and the party settles in for what they hope is a quiet night. And while there were no enemies bothering them, it was a less than quiet night due to some party shenanigans (because would they even be our Dragon Hand Adventuring Company if they weren’t up to shenanigans?). Settling in for the night, Mott summoned a mastiff from his bag of tricks to join his boar for the evening and settles next to it for the night. Ycks and Eta had the first watch together which of course lead to some fun. Eta taking a piece of charcoal from the fire, crept over to where Mott and his mastiff lay, and reaching down she began to draw a mustache on Mott’s face- only to have Mott’s eyes fly open. Staring at Eta, whom he’d caught red handed, Mott simply said: “That’s 2,” as Eta immediately scrambled away giggling. Mott gave both her and Ycks a look before settling back down. When it came time for the next watch, Eta immediately refused to wake Baltar and settled down using her tiger as a pillow, closing her eyes leaving it to Ycks.
Ycks taking a leaf out of Eta’s book picked up some charcoal and headed towards Baltar, however, thinking better of it she woke him and casually tossed the charcoal to the ground without using it. Baltar saw her fling the charcoal away, but initially didn’t think anything of it. However after walking a few rounds about camp, he spotted the charcoal that Mott did not bother to wipe from his face. Deciding that turn about is fair play, he picked up the charcoal, crushed it into a fine powder and rained it down over Ycks and Eta where they slept. Both of them stirred in their sleep and brushed at their faces, but did not wake. Passing the rest of his watch in peace, he went and woke Fianna. After a brief exchange of words during which it seemed the two might spar verbally for awhile, Baltar went back to sleep and Fianna took up the watch.
As Fianna studied her new companions around the fire, she spotted the charcoal that was on Mott, Eta, and Ycks and noted that neither she nor Baltar were sporting any. Deciding this must be some sort of group thing, she tried to get in on it, grabbing some charcoal and making her way over to Baltar. However Baltar was having none of it and busted her before she got the charcoal on to his face. Another brief exchange of words between the two lead to him going back to sleep and her continuing her watch.
Mott found himself woken for the last watch by Fianna and rose quickly. While the rest of the party finished their rest, Mott sat by the fire watching and a voice filled his head saying: “You did well today, I approve. What will you do next?” There was however no one around and no one in the party seemed to have heard anything. Just as the sun was beginning to rise Mott moved towards where Eta was sleeping on her tiger and as the tiger popped away with the dawn and Eta’s head hit the ground, waking her Mott stood there saying simply “Two”.
Shortly thereafter the rest of the party began to wake. Ycks discovering the charcoal on her face and realizing that it must be Baltar went directly over to him and wiped a charcoal covered hand down his face as a steady rain began to fall. Baltar grabbed her by the shoulders and held her out at an arms length in front of him. Ycks wiped her other hand on him and he glared at her. Taking a moment Ycks shifted herself into looking exactly like Silbiiah causing Baltar to drop her, then turned herself back into herself while Baltar muttered “I don’t like the fey wild.” Before heading out for the day Eta summoned a jackal and an axebeak from her bag of tricks, while Mott summoned a lion to join them.
The going on the road was slow as the dirt road turned to mud. Near to midday the party walked into an ambush of an orc raiding party. After a prolonged, wet fight during which Eta realized that there was no good place for her to cast flaming sphere and all three summoned creatures were taken out by the orcs, the party emerged victorious. Looting the hide armor from the orcs bodies, initially hoping that it would be useful to Eta, as she has not obtained any armor since transitioning from wizard to cleric, but finding it wouldn’t be they took it to sell. But it was clear that there wasn’t going to be much more travel today.
Finding a place to camp, Fianna was able to use the hide armor to rig up a safe space to start a fire to try to keep the party warm. This time as the party settled in their were much less shenanigans, though as the fire cast shadows Mott saw a vision of a hunt- mounted riders, the blowing of a horn, a fox running, the riders giving chase- in the shadows thrown by the fire. Mott did ask Ycks if she too say the hunt or anything else in the shadows, but she did not. This night was uneventful in the ways of both shenanigans and events.
The party woke to continuing rain the next morning. Deciding they should try to press on, as they only made about a half days travel yesterday, they set out. The going was still difficult but running into no more raiding orcs or other enemies they passed the day well enough. Breaking travel to make camp for another night and hoping for less rain the next day, the party at least felt hope in knowing that they were now only a half day’s travel away from Silverymoon.
What awaits them there? We’ll have to wait and see.
